ICAD #12

Today is day 12 of ICAD (index card a day through "Daisy Yellow"). I again created a zentangle card. There is something so relaxing about creating zentangles. Check here for more information on this fun form of art.
The background is again a gelli paper.

ABC Wednesday

This week at ABC Wednesday the focus is on  V .

V is for Vertical.

Here is the ATC I created for vertical.

Be sure to check here for how others around the world took on the v challenge.

ICAD #11 and New Art

Today is day eleven of ICAD (index card a day through "Daisy Yellow").
I planned to do another collage and then decided to do a tangle. I took a wonderful course in zentangles a couple of weeks ago and haven't had time to play so I did that tonight.
I used a gelli print background and a sharpie pen.

Inspiration Avenue

I was checking other challenges and at Inspiration Avenue  their new theme was up - "Birds".
My first step is to find a quote that fits the theme and that appeals to me. After about 30 quotes, I came across the one I used. It is so very true (and sad)

Buried Treasure

Tomorrow  Seth Apter over at The Altered Page is hosting his annual hunt for buried treasure – in your old posts.
I decided to take part. It was such fun looking back through the years (!) on my blog and trying to choose something I was proud of and that represented me.

I choose this one "What I Believe" from October 2011.

Here is the beginning of this post.

Michelle Ward hosts a monthly crusade at GPP. This past month was "I'm a Believer". I have taken part in a number of crusades in the past and felt this one shouldn't be missed.

Michelle listed a number of questions about life as an artist. She asked that we journal about our beliefs about art and being an artist.

Most of my life I never called myself an artist or felt that I was creative. I could copy very well. I have fond memories of drawing cartoon characters.

But then I discovered Haliburton School of Fine Arts and for 7 summers, I spent a week or two with my children there and we all took courses. I took courses in basketry, silk screening, design, collage, watercolour. It made me realize that I loved to create and needed to create. I continue to take courses as I can.

Please continue reading  here to see how I answered her questions and what art I shared.

Thanks for visiting! Be sure to check out the wonderful buried treasures at Seth's "Altered Page"

It's Monday! What are You Reading?

It's Monday and time to share what I have been reading. I haven't participated in a while as I really had not been reading much (sadly!)  But the past week I have read a few books and thoroughly enjoyed them.
Be sure to check our Jen and Kellee's blog "Teach Mentor Texts" for great reads. Sheila at Book Journeys hosts a similar meme.

My favourite was "Run" by Eric Walters

This was a novel about the Terry Fox run and was excellent. Although I know Terry's story well, it was fascinating to see how Wilson incorporated the actual Marathon of Hope run into a YA novel.

I also read 'Ghost Messages" by Jacqueline Guest.

Guest's YA novel looks at the actual laying of the trans Atlantic cable. Another fascinating read!

The last book was "Different Dragons" by Jean Little.

I have always enjoyed her books and this YA was a good read. A young boy learns to face several fears and gain confidence as well.

All three authors are actually Canadian and well respected.

I started a couple of adult books as well and plan to finish these over the next week or so - in between writing report cards!

"The End of Your Life Book Club" by Will Schwalbe

I am so enjoying this book about a son and his dying mother's book club.  I am already making a list of books I want to read based on their book club.

"The Creative Habit " by Twyla Tharp.

Tharp may be a choreographer and dancer but she explores all forms of creativity and how to develop the habit. An interesting read.

ICAD #!10

Today for ICAD (index card a day, through "Daisy Yellow"), I created a simple "wish" card.

U for Unique

Alpha Dictionary - U
This week at "The Craft Barn",  U is the letter for the Alpha Dictionary Challenge.

I chose "unique" and thought of my Aunt Jessie, my godmother and my Mother's older sister.
She was like a second mom to me and was so special. She was also an exceptional artist, creating beautiful pieces with rosemaling. (Norwegian folk art) She was also a seamstress and a wonderful friend.. This is my tribute to her.

(I have used gelli prints for the background)
