AEDM - Day 2

Today is "Day of the Dead" or "Dia de Los Muertos"
In honour of today, I created a small collage card:

The background is a gelli print, skull hand-drawn, with cut-out magazine letters.

AEDM- Day 1

November brings AEDM - Art Every Day Month - the fun challenge hosted at Creative Every Day by  Leah Piken Kolidas.
I am in desperate need of an infusion of art and creativity and Leah's challenge is one I have done many times. I am determined to create daily - I have missed this outlet for some time.

Day1
I saw a 30 day challenge issued by ATStamps, creating small stamps (4.5 cm x 6 cm). I did not have the "MY Stamp" to create the stamp, so I carved my own. It made me realize how long it has been since I carved a stamp - so it is a bit wonky!

The theme for today was "Animals". I may not continue the whole month with this stamp challenge but it got me going today.

I also want to work with felt; do some beading; do some watercolour and work in a journal with quotes. Lots of ideas to keep me busy.

Here is the stamp and notebook I use to test the stamp:

Here is my created "stamp" (not perfect by any months, but fun anyway)

Be sure to check here to see what all the fun is about - and tow see what others around the world are creating for AEDM.

ART on Friday

Time to share some art I've created for art challenges this week for ART on Friday.

Sunday Postcard Art
The theme at Sunday Postcard Art this week is "Evolution". I thought a quote by Charles Darwin would be appropriate.

Tag Tuesday
The theme at Tag Tuesday for the past two weeks was "apples and pears. (The photos is of my Mon and Dad - with me peaking out)

Take a Word Challenge
The theme at Take a Word Challenge is "Fence". I created a very simple background to highlight the quotes.

Art Elements
The them at Art Elements was "Foliage"

ART on Friday (on Saturday!)

Yesterday flew by with appointments and resting from a cold. So here now are a few things I worked on this week.

Sunday Postcard Art
The theme this week at Sunday Postcard Art was "hands"
Here's my postcard:

Journal Page

I had collected a few other quotes so thought I'd create a journal page for hands as well:

Take a Word Challenge
The theme at Take a Word Challenge was "Flight"

29 Faces
I have been very slack about drawing faces this week. Here is my favourite:

Harvest Full Moon Dreamboard
Iused to create a full moon dreamboard every month a few years ago. I found it a valuable exercise to focus on dreams and wishes for the month ahead. Jamie Ridler hosts classes in creating dramboards.
The question to focus on while creating the dreamboard was " What dreams do you wish to bring to fruition? Here was my response.

ART on Friday

Hard to believe that it has been almost four months since I posted anything, let alone Art on Friday. I took an extended break - from blogging here and even from art. Life overtook everything - and i am now ready to return some former routines - including blogging, creating and taking part in art challenges. I really have missed that, although I have visited blogs as often as I could.
I know I need to create and I've missed that.
My art room is in a state of upheaval right now - but my goal is to get it organized by the end of September.

Here are a few things I created this week and the challenges I took part in.

29 Faces
This challenge for September encourages us to create a face a day. Here are a couple I did this week.

Sunday Postcard Art
The theme this week at Sunday Postcard Art is "Changing seasons"

Take a Word Challenge
The theme at Take a Word Challenge is "Doorway"

Creative Every Day
The challenge at Creative Every Day this month is "figure"

Journal Page
The theme of changing seasons netted a number of interesting quotes that I had to use. Here's a journal page I created:

ART on Friday

Another week has gone by and we are almost mid month. Mother's Day is on Sunday and I am going to a potluck tomorrow with my children and granddaughter and then a barbecue for supper with my stepchildren and their kids. What a treat!

Here are a few things I've worked on this week:

"Steal Like an Artist Journal" Challenge
There are so many fun prompts to do in Austin Kleon's journal. Here are just 2 I did this week:

Blooming Marvellous May
This week I only did a few flowers for this challenge Kick in the Creatives..Ii worked with watercolour - these were my favourites:

CHALLENGES

Sunday postcard Art
The theme at Sunday Postcard Art this week is "chair"

I thought this an appropriate quote for the times.

Take a Word Challenge
The theme at Take a Word Challenge is "Mother and Child".
I decided to use one when I was a month old and my Mom is holding me.

Tag Tuesday
The theme at Tag Tuesday is "Sea World".
I was looking for some fish photos I had, but found this seahorse statue I photographed when I was in Puerta Vallarta several years ago. It is truly amazing.

ART on Friday - a return!

A new month, a new resolve to do more, a return to art and ART on Friday. It has been a while since I posted but I'm back with focus and resolve to do better.

Steal Like an Artist Journal Challenge
I have started a daily entry in Austin Kleon's "Steal Like an Artist Journal". I even emailed him to be sure it was okay to post pages from his journal and he gave me the go-ahead. He is one of my heroes. I have read several of his books several times. They really do help one's creativity. Be sure to check his website here (and don't forget to sign up to his newsletter - filled with awesomeness!)

Here are my entries for:
May 2nd

Create a spine poem from books you have on hand.

May 3rd

Create a poem from headlines cut out from the newspaper. These are some of the headlines just from the pst few days. Really show just how destructive the PC (Con) government is in Ontario.

Focus
I created another card for my OLW (Focus)

Blooming Marvellous May
At KickintheCreatives, there's a new art challenge - create a piece of flower art every day.
I love the artwork of Alisa Burke - especially her flowers. I have signed up for her "Inky Blooms" course and hope to share some this month,
Here are my first three blooms inspired by Alisa:

CHALLENGES
I haven't been taking part in any weekly challenges for a while, but am jumping back in.

Sunday Postcard Art

The theme at Sunday Postcard Art was "No focal point"
I used a piece from when I needed to clear paint from a roller and then added the quote.

Pairs/Wings

I used the following card for both: Take a Word Challenge (theme: pairs) and Try it on Tuesday (theme: things with wings)

Tag Tuesday

The theme at Tag Tuesday was "Faces"

Steal Like an Artist Journal - Day 1

Day 1 of my low-key challenge using Austin Kleon's "Steal Like an Artist Journal"
If you haven't read any of his books, you should. Check his blog here.
If yoou haven't subscribed to his newsletter you really should do it now!

I skimmed through his journal and the page/challenge that drew me was to make a collage from junk mail.
Here's just from 1 day's junk mail. I especially love envelopes.

SOL Tuesday

Today is Slice of Life Tuesday - the weekly writing challenge hosted at Two Writing Teachers"

In March i was consistent in the March SOL challenge. In April, I tried a couple of challenges but was not successful. One wss an art challenge (A to Z), the other NanoWriMo writing challenge.
I know I am capable of a daily challenge - it is finding the one that resonates with me.

I have decided to create my own.

I receive a weekly newsletter from Austin Kleon and have read several of his books. (Steal Like an Artist, Show Your Work, Keep Going)

As he says: "I’m a writer who draws. I make art with words and books with pictures."

I recently bought "The Steal Like an Artist Journal" , having read the original book and loved it. I really want to have fun with it.

So I plan to do a page a day and do something creative every day.
Some of his suggestions throughout the book sound like fun:
"Steal a title from a book you've never read and invent your own story"
"my top 10 guilty pleasures"
"Make a collage from items in your wastebasket."

I hope to post every day - and draw, write, collage in the journal - I plan to just have fun.
'Hope you'll join me.
