ART on Friday

The first Friday of September - has the summer ever gone by quickly.
Here are a few things I have been working on this week:

Colour Me Positive
This week at LuLuArt, the theme is travel.
Hans Christian Anderson had it right: "To travel is to live."
Travel also broadens the mind, allowing us to walk in others' shoes and see how they live their lives.

Tag a Day and New Challenge
Tara Leaver posted a new 7 day mini art project earlier this week and I started it yesterday.
We are to create a small series of artwork over 7 days.

I decided to create 7 small pieces (6x5 1/2"). Each day I plan to add a different layer until I have at least 7 layers.
I decided also, to do this with my art tags for this month - doing a different set of 7 each week.

First layer:spray inks

Second layer: stamping
Third layer: printing with bubble wrap
Fourth layer: stencilling (using a stencil with small circles) - this is a view of the tags

Tomorrow I will add torn and unique papers. Then I plan on adding used stamps, and printing with my own handcarved stamps.
(I have also been inspired by Jane Davies with her series of collages.)

I also did a tag for ABC Wednesday this week - for H.

 Show Your Face
I decided that for September I would also sketch a face a day. I've missed that over the summer. .Kim Dellow has a great challenge each week at her blog.

Art on Friday

This week both gratitude and a full moon inspired me to create journal pages.

Art Journal Journey
With American Thanksgiving this week and the theme of "autumn colours" at Art Journal Journey, I used inspiration from Valerie -Jael of  Bastelmania to create this page.

Full Frost Moon Dreamboard
I have returned to the practice of creating a dreamboard on the ful moon and find it valuable.
The question posed by Jamie Ridler " What dreams are becoming clear?" was the focus  as I gathered words and images,

This time I found several quotes that spoke to me used those to motivate me in the month ahead.

The theme of shifting gears struck me as necessary - changing what I do to achieve better results - not only in my writing but in my pursuit of better health.
The need to express my creativity came through as well.

Several om "One little Words" found there way on the dreamboard as well - as a reminder to seek joy, believe I can achieve, and bloom.

Art on Friday

Friday mornings I usually finish some of the projects I started through the week. I find that having challenges to complete pushes me to create most days. And there are many challenges, both weekly and monthly, through blogverse. Here are a few I am participating in:

Show Your Face
Kim Dellow's weekly "Show Your Face" is fun - and an easy way to focus on faces. This week I was inspired by Jennifer Orkin Lewis at "August Wren" and her stylized faces. Quick and fun - using watercolour and sharpie pens.

Journal
This week I created my autumn vision board (check here to see more about it)

The theme for"Collage Obsession", is "Trio". As I was looking up quotes, this one inspired me, especially as I had created a tree already this week and it is fall now.

My trios:  Roots, leaves, fruits;  thoughts, words, actions.

Collage
I created several collages this week - this was my favourite:

ATCs
I am working on several swaps this week and here are the first three I created:

Photography
Here are the latest flowers for our dining room table - lilies. Love them.

Art on Friday

This week has sped by as we near the end of summer. High temperatures for the last full week of summer - 30C most days.
I've done a bit of art - collages, a face, a journal page, some ATCs. Here's a glimpse:

Journal
Robin Williams has been a favourite of mine for so long and this quote by him resonates.

We need change in the world - and need ideas and words that can rock our assumptions and prejudices.

Show Your Face
Kim Dellow hosts a fun weekly challenge to share faces you have created each week. I took a long break from doing just that, but I have missed the challenge. Here's a watercolour face, using a magazine model.

Collages
I'm continuing my own challenge to play with papers. This time I did not include stamps or stamping. Next week I want to try a canvas collage.

Photography
I enjoy taking photos - of flowers, skies, and odd things.

Art on Friday

A quick post to share a couple of face projects:

That quote really opens one eyes to the necessity of living our moments in the now.

Begin doing what you want to do now. We are not living in eternity. We have only this moment, sparkling like a star in our hand - and melting like a snowflake. Let us use it before it is too late.”

Marie Beynon Ray

Then I just had fun cutting and pasting to create a fun face.

ART on Friday

The past few weeks I have been sharing some of my weekly art on Fridays, taking part in several fun challenges/memes. For a long time I had shared my art on Sundays, but I always found myself rushing late to post. Today I decided that I would begin a more formal sharing on Friday, under the heading "ART on Friday".

Journal
While searching for quotes this week for another project, I found these and knew it was meant to be. With the rainbow I saw on Wednesday, it seemed the perfect inspiration for this journal spread.

(Joy quote by Robert Wagner)

Bloom is my One Little Word this year and I felt that I needed the reminder that I really do need to bloom - it is that time of the year when flowers blossom and share their best. I have to as well.

Faces for "Show Your Face"
I have been enjoying the weekly challenge at Kim Dellow's blog to share faces on Friday. It has forced me to work on faces - whether sketching or painting. Here are 2 I sketched.

Collage Obsession
It has been a while since I participated in the challenges at Collage Obsession. Their theme this week was "Stamps". ICAD (hosted by Daisy Yellow) returns on Monday for 60 days and to warm up I created these 3 small collages - using similar materials, as well as a used stamp and stamps I carved.

PPF / Art it Friday

Paint Party Friday  and Art it Friday

Once again I'm joining Paint Party Friday

and "Show Your Face" at Kim Dellow's blog.

and sharing two faces I created.

The first was in watercolour - using a magazine model.

I then used the same model for my journal page, in acrylics, but wasn't as happy with the results.
The quote is one by Jean Luc Picard and it is dead on.

"Time is a companion that goes with us on a journey. It reminds us to cherish each moment, because it will never come again. What we leave behind is not as important as how we have lived."
