ART on Friday

The first Friday of March and time to share some of the art I created this week.,

Colour Me Positive
This week at LuLu Art the theme is laughter - something we really need to do every day.

Weekly Art Challenges
This week I only worked on 2:

Sunday Postcard Art
This week the theme is butterflies.

ABC Wednesday - H

The Collage Workbook
This week I chose the challenge "Squares, rectangles" from this wonderful book.

Mini Collage Journal
I only created a couple of pages this week.

Project 365
This month I am going to create watercolour ATCs - using "Watercolour Workbook" by Anne Elsworth. I also hope to create larger pieces following her 10 lessons.

ART on Friday

The first Friday in May and I'm sharing a few things I've been working on this week

Mixed Media Monthly Challenge

This month's theme at MMMC is "Butterflies and Blooms" - a great theme for May.
I had decided to create flower tags for my own art tag 365 challenge. Here are a couple from this week:

Colour Me Positive
This week the theme is "Balance" for the challenge at "LuLuArt"

(For both the tags and the journal page, I tried using painted dictionary pages as the background.)

Art Tags
In addition to the flower tags above, I also created a "question" tag for ABC Wednesday.

Photography
Lovely spring flowers are blooming in our gardens now - here a few I snapped today:

Art on Friday

I am just making it in under the wire for Art on Friday.
I have been fighting a sore throat/headaches all week and today's was wicked. I did shake it but then (since my hubby is home til his pacemaker is put in next Wed.) we were off shopping, then supper and finally a date night of watching "The Martian". (excellent movie!)
So I am finally getting to do this weekly blog sharing of some of the things I have done this week.

Colour Me Positive
At Lulu Art, the new theme is on "Heart" with the additional challenge of using collage. Since I enjoy collage and mixed media this was fun to do.

Art Tags
Since the theme for my cards this month is hearts and love, I made a few for some challenges (check my post here on all of the challenges - lots of great ones to take part in)

Here is the art tag and stamp I created for ABC Wednesday.

52 Card Pick-up
The theme this week for this weekly APC challenge is Believe.

29 Faces
I am still using magazine faces to sketch and watercolour faces for this challenge at  Sojourner . Here are 3 of my favourites from this week.

What challenges have you been working on this week?

Art on Friday

Time for a share of some of the art I have created this week and a look at some of the themes of challenges I participated in.

Paper, Paint , Pencils, Pens!
This art community posts 2 themes a month and we all respond to it in different ways.
I created my second watercolour self-portrait this week, by looking in a mirror. My concentration made me appear much more serious.

Tag a Day
I am continuing with my 366 day project - with 4 more collaged tags as well as 1 tag for ABC Wednesday weekly challenge (A is for Arrow)

.

Colour Me Positive
I am enjoying the weekly journal challenge at Colour Me Positive. The quote relates to living fully each day and also encouraged us to use lyrics in our spread.

(I tried for layers - with inks, paint, stencils and stamps - it is a wee bit "Busy"!)

52 Card Pick-up
The theme for this weekly card challenge on facebook  this week was "Today". I related it to living our dreams.

Art on Friday

This is my first Art on Friday for 2016. I thought it was an opportunity to share some of the projects/challenges I am planning to work on this year. (I'm including links if you'd like to participate in any of them)

In Julie Fei-Fan Balzer's recent blog post she shared 5 reason why she does art challenges. Two really spoke to me:
*Connects me with a community of other artists.
*Reminds me that regular practice really does lead to skills improvement.

Tag a Day
For 2016 I am creating a tag a day from scrap papers - handmade, painted, bits and pieces. Here are my latest:

January Boxes
I had seen an art project of a page of boxes and loved the idea of a box a day - to capture simple collages, found pictures or stamps. Here's the first 8 days:

Paper, Paint, Pencils, Pens!
I joined this community and try to take part in their twice monthly challenges.
Jan. 1 -15 the them is self-portrait.
Here's my watercolour self-portrait from a photo taken in 1998.(Don't you just love those glasses?? lol)

Colour Me Positive
I joined in with this weekly journalling challenge and am enjoying the change to work with quotes and art. Each Friday a new quote is posted and we are asked to respond.
Here is my first journal spread, with the theme gratitude:

Let's Play
Carolyn Dube is hosting a challenge this year to just play. The first week she asked us to use found materials.
For my project, I included used stamps and words cut from mail and magazine inserts to be recycled. A quick, fun  project.

WOYWW

Today we are asked to share our workspaces and what we are working on. Julia Dunnit of "Stamping Ground" hosts this fun challenge.

As I prepared for ABC Wednesday, a weekly challenge I participate in, I chose to focus on ribbons for the letter pf the week. I created a watercolour page based on the quote I chose. But I changed my mind after creating the page to Remembrance Day, as we celebrate that today in Canada.

Here is the dining room table where I worked on the watercolour, before I added the quote:

Here is the finished piece:

31 Days of Art and Inspiring Words - Day 23

Today is Day 23 of the 31 Days of writing - the daily blogging challenge this month.

This quote by Mary Shelley points to the notion that each day is really a new beginning and we can decide each day how we will live it.

"The beginning is always today".

Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley was born in England in 1797, was married to the poet Percy Bysshe Shelley and was a novelist, essayist and dramatist. She is best known for her Gothic novel "Frankenstein"

A Return - to ABC Wednesday and WOYWW

Yes - fireworks!
Over a month break from blogging and I am ready to return. I needed the break but I have missed the challenges and the daily contact here.
I have done little art or writing but now I feel refreshed and ready to create.
last week we spent a few days in Lake George - our yearly trip to the area, especially Saratoga Springs. On a Thursday night we found ourselves in Shephard Park watching the Weekly fireworks. What a show!

It is appropriate to share one of my photos of fireworks as this week at ABC Wednesday, the letter of the week is "F". I am joining in the 17th round a wee bit late, but better late than never"

I have decided this round to start with a photo and then create an art piece for that photo.

F is for flowers. There were so many lovely flowers in Lake George. Here are some of my favourites.

I then created a watercolour of a single flower today.

WOYWW

I am returning as well to WOYWW - the meme hosted by Julie at "Stamping Ground" - where we are asked to share what we are working on and what's on our workspaces.

Here's my dining room table - where I was working this afternoon.
