Sunday Weekly Wrap-Up

This past week I was able to create some art and do some writing. I am taking part in the March Slice of Life at "Two Writing Teachers" which involves writing daily in March. It can be a challenge some days to find something to write about but I have been able to do that every day. You can check out my writing blog here.

Dreamboard/ Spring Intentions
My art this week centred around creating the March Full Moon Dreamboard and my spring intentions board. These practices have become very necessary and I refer to them throughout the month or season.

This is a section of my dreamboard - my two dreams.

My spring intentions board:

Collage
I created one collage just for fun. I save scraps of gelli papers and today I just needed to create a quick collage. Love the colours.

Firsts
I have not recorded first for a few weeks. I have not been as dedicated to pursuing firsts lately but the past  week I had a couple of firsts that hopefully will impact my writing career.

1.  I submitted a picture book manuscript and 4 chapters of a middle grade novel I am working on to an editor to be critiqued. I paid for this to be done and hopefully this will help me with revisions and continuing with the novel.

2. I joined two critique groups that will help with helping me edit and revise my work. One is for picture books and the other is for my historical middle grade novel.

I bought a picture book today and really enjoyed it. I saw the title and just had to buy "My Brave Year of Firsts" by Jamie Lee Curtis and Laura Cornell .
The last two pages of the book say it all about firsts:
   "  Some firsts just happen.
     Some come when I try.
     Some firsts make me smile.
     Some firsts make me cry.
.....first things first happen when I'm brave, true and strong."

Sunday Weekly Wrap-Up

Writing seems to be taking over a lot of my time now. I am creating some art but not as involved with challenges as I was.

Year of Firsts
My first for this past week was actually using the snowblower all on on own - from taking it out, to snowblowing our long driveway, moving the car and all the sidewalks. A huge job. I have only ever used it with my husband, to give him a short break. It took we well over an hour to do the whole thing. We got about a foot of snow. I must say, I was pretty proud of myself, e and my husband was so glad to come home to a clear driveway!

ATCs
I did create some ATCs this week for some swaps

Quotes

Heart Inchies

29 Faces
I did a few faces this week, only a couple I was okay with. I'm trying different techniques and using different media. (Check here for info on this fun challenge).

cut and paste:

watercolour crayon (a first as well)

Books Read
I have read 14 books so far - you can check the books in the above tab.

Sunday Weekly Wrap-Up

Year of Firsts - Week by Week

The inspiration of this "Year of Firsts".came from LuAnn Cahn and her book "I Dare Me" which chronicled her daily Year of Firsts. (Check here to my first post about this challenge).

This past week I decided to create a large canvas (16 x 20) using techniques I had learned in several courses. Although the result was not as I had envisioned, I enjoyed the process.

Putting on background papers

Adding Fluid acrylics

Then I used modeling paste, stencils, stamping and  glazing

I am not finished - but not sure where I want top take it. I will let it sit for awhile.

Collage
I completed one collage this week - for Journal 52.

Zen cards
I find these relaxing and fun to do. Here are just a few more I have done.

ATCs

I created some red zen cards for a swap

Writing
I have completed a children's story and will be submitting it to Highlights for Children for their Holiday Fiction Contest. I continue to work on novellas - and work on different courses and challenges as well.

Reading
Have read a couple more books - see my growing list above.

Sunday Weekly Wrap-Up

This past week started my "Year of Firsts". the inspiration came from LuAnn Cahn and her book "I Dare Me" which chronicled her daily Year of Firsts. (Check here to my first post about this challenge).

All week I was busy with a number of projects and then came down with a bout of food poisoning. Not a good time to be thinking of trying something new, let me tell you.

Yesterday though, I decided to finally try making and drinking my first green smoothie. Two of my children are vegans and have been encouraging me to go more natural.  The idea of a green smoothie just didn't excite me though. I had already bought a bullet and thought I'd try a fruit one.

But, as I was checking recipes yesterday, I discovered one for "Sunshine in a Jar" and it was a green smoothie!. Loved the name and I had 3 out of 4 of the main ingredients. Perfect.

I put 2 handfuls of spinach, 1 cup chopped pineapple and the juice of 2 oranges into my blender; whirled the ingredients and voila - my first smoothie.
.
I sampled it and although it took a while (okay a long while) to finish it, I found it a very different tast. It was more the texture than the taste - the pineapple came through. Yes, I will try it again. It just takes getting used to I think.

Zen Cards

I am continuing with creating the zen cards and learning some new zentangles. Next I ned to work on shaing - this really adds to the quality of the zens.

Journal 52
The theme this past week  for Journal 52 was "Somewhere, A Simple Place". For me, my home is my refuge a place to be safe.

ATCs
I worked on several swaps this past week:

Butterflies on 9s (by the time I am finished I will have a whole deck of butterflies)

Collage PAT

Set of Twinchies

Books Read - check page above for progress on my 10 books - I've read 8 so far
