ABC Wednesday - Z

This is the end of ABC 12 - today we highlight Z.  It has been a fun romp through the alphabet and a creative one for me. I have thoroughly enjoyed creating ATCs for each letter.

This week Z is for zero, zilch and a bit of a zigzag!

(The background is a gelli print.)

Be sure to check here to see how others solved Z.

Sunday Weekly Wrap-Up

This was my first week of summer holidays yet I spent 4 days at school sorting, tossing, packing, cleaning and then bringing some stuff home each day. 36 years of teaching materials means a lot of stuff if you are a collector. I did sell some books but have many more to sell! I hope to have a yard sale the end of the month. It is so hard to let go of units and lesson materials you have used. I threw out so many things. But it must be done. I will probably be at school a couple more days next week.
Then I still have more work at home - to sort and toss materials at home.

I did get a bit of art done. The daily ICADs (through Daisy Yellow) are a fun diversion and I have been working on my Stamp carving course this week, so some of my cards used stamps I carve. Still need a lot of practice tho.

ICADs

July 3 - flowers from a stencil on the gelli plate

July 4 -carved flower stamp - stamped on gelli paper

July 5  carved stamps

July 6 - carved heart stamp, on gelli paper  in honour of our 11th anniversary

July 7  carved horse stamp - in honour of the Queen's Plate in Toronto - which we attended and enjoyed.

Shadow Shot Sunday

There is something about shadows that draws me - the dark contrast to the light, the odd shapes created. I tend to look for them first - it has become a bit of an addiction! At least I know I am not alone in my addiction!

Be sure to check here for wonderful shadows from around the world.

Do The Right Thing - Life Mantra

This is the sixth Life Mantra Word Prompt  for the Art Journal Challenge at Paper Traders..
This month's prompt is "Do the Right Thing"

I chose a quote by Theodore Roosevelt. It is so true.

I used some gelli papers for the background and found the arrows go along with the words.

Photo Challenges - Sky Watch and Messy Little Details

I have missed taking part in this photo challenge. I am always taking shots of interesting skies. But full-time teaching is not conducive to visiting blogs and leaving comments. I have been remiss in that the past month or so. Now though, I have retired and want to get back to more of the challenges I used to enjoy so much.

Here is the sky tonight, from 2 directions

Check here from lovely skies around the world.

Messy Little Details
Carolyn Jane  hosts this fun meme. As she says :
"I want to invite you to join me in sharing photos of those odd little things you just have to photograph, things that inspire you, thrill you, make you laugh or make you wonder. "

Here is my photo:

I received this lovely chocolate last week from a student. I ate it tonight -yummy!

Passport to Art / ICAD

                                                         Passport to Art Day 1

There is a new daily challenge for July through Bernice at Newly Creative. It starts with an altered book, preferably an old atlas. Each day there are quotes, inspiration and a technique to try.
Check here for the challenge.

I am already behind! Here is my first spread. I am using an old school atlas and started with a  simple painted background, using a credit card.

Here is a closer look at the quotes.

When I first read the quote by Anderson , it was the quote "stop and smell the roses" that I thought of. That lead to the flowers and the change in words. We do need to pause and take in all around us on any journey.

Here are my 2 cards for July 1

ABC Wednesday - X and Y

This week I am sharing my ATCs for X and Y.
Last week was the last week of school and so busy I did not blog much at all.

X is for "X" marks the spot - so that you can 'xplore.
This was a photo of an X I created from paper.

Y is for yellow - not one of my favourite colours, but one great for summer.
The background is a gelli paper.

Be sure to check out the wonderful people from around the world who take part in this fun meme here.  We are almost at the end of the alphabet. I hope to continue - will have to think of another challenge to create.
