New Collages

The Magic of Christmas

At Inspiration Avenue the the theme this week was Christmas and at OLW (One Little Word)  magic was the word to focus on. For me, Christmas has always been a magic time. This quote said it all. I loved these stickers from the Lung Association from 1979 - created by children. Magical!

This is the final life word prompt at Paper Traders. Laugh every day was the prompt and when I looked up quotes I could not choose just one. Here were my favourites, with a photo of my daughter many years ago enjoying herself.

Truth - Life Word Prompt

This past month's Life Word Prompt at Paper Traders was "Be Truthful" (and use a pocket)

My first thought was the verse from John 8:32 -"and the truth shall set you free"

Here are some other great quotes about truth:

The worst thing about being lied to is knowing  you’re not worth the truth.  Unknown
If you tell the truth, you don't have to remember anything.     Mark Twain
Tell the truth, or someone will tell it for you.   Stephanie Klein
If you do not tell the truth about yourself you cannot tell it about other people.   Virginia Wolf

Never be afraid to raise your voice for honesty and truth and compassion against injustice and lying and greed. If people all over the world...would do this, it would change the earth.
 William Faulkner

Truth never damages a cause that is just.   Gandhi
Truth is like the sun. You can shut it out for a time, but it ain't going away.   Elvis
Time is precious, but truth is more precious than time.   Disraeli
The high-minded man must care more for the truth than for what people think.  Aristotle

Be Thankful - Paper Traders

I completed my collage for the "Life Word" challenge at Paper Traders.
The theme was "Be thankful" with the added challenge of only using 3 colours.

I have always liked this biblical passage from Thessalonians and I used only blues, purples and white .

I have also finished my 2 postcards for the word collage swap and have sent them on their way.

Sunday Weekly Wrap-Up

This was my first week of summer holidays yet I spent 4 days at school sorting, tossing, packing, cleaning and then bringing some stuff home each day. 36 years of teaching materials means a lot of stuff if you are a collector. I did sell some books but have many more to sell! I hope to have a yard sale the end of the month. It is so hard to let go of units and lesson materials you have used. I threw out so many things. But it must be done. I will probably be at school a couple more days next week.
Then I still have more work at home - to sort and toss materials at home.

I did get a bit of art done. The daily ICADs (through Daisy Yellow) are a fun diversion and I have been working on my Stamp carving course this week, so some of my cards used stamps I carve. Still need a lot of practice tho.

ICADs

July 3 - flowers from a stencil on the gelli plate

July 4 -carved flower stamp - stamped on gelli paper

July 5  carved stamps

July 6 - carved heart stamp, on gelli paper  in honour of our 11th anniversary

July 7  carved horse stamp - in honour of the Queen's Plate in Toronto - which we attended and enjoyed.

Do The Right Thing - Life Mantra

This is the sixth Life Mantra Word Prompt  for the Art Journal Challenge at Paper Traders..
This month's prompt is "Do the Right Thing"

I chose a quote by Theodore Roosevelt. It is so true.

I used some gelli papers for the background and found the arrows go along with the words.
