WOYWW

It's time once again to share our workspaces, the meme hosted by Julia at "Stamping Ground."
Stop by there - for a wonderful glimpse of art spaces from around the world.

Here is my work space on my dining room table. I created the backgrounds for these cards (gelli prints) last week and put several together tonight.

In the photo, I have finished two (at the top) and am working on several more.
I have a lot of used stamps - many of which are of famous people. I am taking part in the "A to Z Challenge" and my theme is art cards with quotes by famous people.. (Check here for my theme reveal - I will be sharing at my other blog)

Here are a few of my cards:

ABC Wednesday - C

This week at ABC Wednesday, C is the letter of the week.

C is for Cards

Playing cards are just the right size for creating APCs - art playing cards (a typical ATC).They provide a strong backing for collage.

Christmas cards can be cut up and used to create Christmas ornaments.

C is also for cardboard

Cardboard pieces can be used in a number of ways. One of my favourites is to strip off the outer layer, to reveal the ridges in the centre and then use this for printmaking on the gelli plate.

Be sure to check here to see what others found for C.

2 Collages

Tonight I was able to take some time for art. Finally!

I created 2 collages for 2 of my favourite challenges. I used gelli papers for both backgrounds.

Collage Obsession:

This week the theme was "Use 1 word"
I chose Love  and tried the stencil technique Carolyn Dube offered through an online course (a must do!)
For me, my Mother epitomizes Love. Next week will be the 5th anniversary of her passing - I still miss her so much. This was in honour of her.

SOL #20 - March 20th and WOYWW

Today is day 20 of the Slice of Life March, the writing challenge sponsored and run by Stacey and Ruth of "Two Writing Teachers".
After talking about fear and driving yesterday, I thought I'd just say that the drives to school and back were a little bit of a challenge. I got home safe and knew I needed to do something to really relax before bed.
I got my school work done first and then set up my long table in the family room so that I could create papers.
Just playing with paint and the gelli plate is a de-stressor for me. I could feel the tension leave my shoulders.
I only need 30-40 minutes of art time to relax fully.

One of the memes (special art  challenges each week) that I occasionally take part in is WOYWW
(What's on Your Workdesk? Wednesday). It is fun to check what other artists have happening on their workdesks.
This was mine Tuesday night!

(Stencils I used and some of the prints I created)

(Some of the delicious papers created when rolling off extra paint from the roller or stencils - great for backgrounds)

What do you do for relaxation?

G is for Gelli Prints

This week at ABO Wednesday, the letter is G.

For me, my new addiction fits so well with G - Gelli plate and gelli prints.

Here is a  step-by-step look at creating some gelli prints.

Here is a 6 x 6 inch gelli plate with the brayer. ( I place it on a sheet of glass to protect it.)

Here I have put some acrylic paint on the plate

and then used the brayer to spread the paint.

Once it is spread I use a stencil, bubble wrap or other tools to make an impression on the painted plate.

Here are some of the things I have used to make impressions.

Then a paper is pressed down onto the plate and pulled up.

A second ghost print can be done as well. This print can be used several times to get a very layered effect..

The prints are always dfferent and you never know what will appear. Here are a few other papers I did tonight.

with bubble wrap

with small doilies

There is so much that can be doine with the finished papers - from journal pages to ATCs to other  artworks.

Here are some ATC backgrounds I made from some papers created last week. These will be used for an ATC background swap.
