52 Books in 52 Weeks

This is another favourite challenge - the 52 Books in 52 Weeks hosted by Liz Mannegren at MommyMannegren

Here are the guidelines
The goals for this challenge are simple: stretch yourself out of your regular reading habits, read more, and have fun with it! While there are no “rules” to this challenge, here are a few helpful notes to keep in mind as you get started:
1. Don’t stress about whether or not you get through all 52 categories. The goal is simply to read more. (Whatever that looks like FOR YOU.) Set a goal for yourself and see if you can reach it.
2. Venture out of your usual section of the library/bookstore. As tempting as it may be to slot your regular reading into every category, use this as an opportunity to branch out a little too. These categories are a great way to uncover new authors and genres that you might not otherwise read.
3. Interpret the categories in whatever way you like. Feel free to use the fullness of your creativity and imagination as you pick books for each category. If you think a book fits a certain category, then it does!
4. Read books you like! This isn’t meant to be a stressful challenge. Due to our natural reading preferences some of the categories will be more difficult to complete than others — but just have fun with it! Do a little research and find books that not only fit that category but that you’ll also enjoy reading.
5. Join the Facebook Group. The Facebook group is the perfect place to meet fellow readers and discuss the books we’re reading. We help each other out with ideas for different categories, share reviews, and talk about all things books! (Plus, it’ll help you out with this year’s category “A book suggested by someone else in the challenge.”)

Reading Challenges for 2010

My library overfloweth!

As part of the clearing away of clutter/making space challenge on Shannon's blog, I decided to read more this year and thus purge my library in the process. This lead to visiting reading/book blogs and what I discovered was some reading challenges for 2010.
Reading is a pasion for me - but usually through the school year I limit my reading to education texts and magazines.
This year I want more reading for me, so I am signing on for the following challenges:
(I will be able to combine books read to several of the challenges - but it still means reading at least one book a week!)

With this challenge you must post 12 books you already have, that you want to have read for over 6 months (lots of those!)

Here is my list:
1. Lovely Bones (Sebold)
2. Time Traveller's Wife
3. The Hours (Cunningham)
4. The Swallows of Kabul (Khadra)
5. Frenchwomen Don't Get Fat
6. Knit Two (Jacobs)
7. The Thirteenth Tale (Guiliano)
8. Unless (Shields)
9. Suite Francaise (Nemrovsky)
10. Deafening (Itani)
11. Break No Bones (Reichs)
12. Three Cups of Tea (Mortenson)
You can also have an alternate list. Here's mine:
1. Life of Pi (Martel)
2. Three Day Road (Boyden)
3. The Year of Magical Thinking (Didion)
4. Lord John, Private Matters (Gabaldon)
5. Serendipity Road (De Vrie)
6. A Voice of Reflection (Gzowski)
7. A Thousand Splendid Suns (Hosseini)
8. The Tenth Circle (Picoult)
9. Extraordinary Evil (Coloroso)
10. Lucky Man (Fox)
11. A Mighty Heart (Pearl)
12. The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency (Smith)

The goal is to read one book (at least) a week for 52 weeks. The rules are very simple:
The challenge will run from January 1, 2010 through December 31, 2010.Participants may join at any time. All forms of books are acceptable including e-books, audio books, etc.Re-reads are acceptable as long as they are read after January 1, 2010.Books may overlap other challenges.

How does this reading challenge work? Choose the option that works best for you...

It is being hosted by Bart over at Bart's Bookshelf.. The idea is to read 20 books that fit into 10 categories in 2010
Rules:
Read 2 books from each category, making a requirement of 20 books total.
Each book can only qualify for one category.
Crossovers with other challenges are allowed.
Here are the categories:

Musings Mondays

On a morning when I woke up so early it is still dark out, I ended up leapfrogging around blogs. I ended up at "Should be Reading" and found some very interesting memes.

Today this question was posed for "Musing Mondays":

"When you buy books, do they immediately go onto your bookshelf to wait until you’re ready to read them (even if that means months/years from then!), or do you read them right away? What makes you do this? If you’re a ’shelver’, why do you think you don’t read the books right away? Do you ever feel guilty for letting the books sit there, unread? If you’re a ‘read-em-now’ person, why do you feel they have to be read right away? Do you give away the books when you’re done, too?"

My favourite stores are bookstores and looking around my house you can see where my money goes. My children always knew that if they asked for a treat at the store it better be for a book as I couldn't say no!

There are bookshelves and books everywhere!

I am usually a shelver, although I often read a book as soon as I get it . Lately I have been passing books onto others -"The Shack", "Eat Pray Love", "The Christmas List" for example. It is interesting to see where the chain goes. I belong to a book club and we have a special night where we bring in books we want others to share.

I always like to have several books on the go. Right now I am reading "Stroke of Insight, "Still Alice", and "An Irish Christmas".

This year I have signed on to "52 Books in 52 Weeks" just so that I read more throughout the year.

What are your reading habits?

52 Books in 52 Weeks

At Serendipity I discovered a new challenge - 52 Books in 52 Weeks. Not that I really need a challenge to read - I love reading. But usually through the school year I don't read as many books as I'd like. I am still working on the "101 in 1001 days" so this will fit in here.

Here is the format for this challenge:

Read 52 Books in 52 Weeks in 2010
The goal is to read one book (at least) a week for 52 weeks. The rules are very simple:
The challenge will run from January 1, 2010 through December 31, 2010.
Participants may join at any time.
All forms of books are acceptable including e-books, audio books, etc.
Re-reads are acceptable as long as they are read after January 1, 2010.
Books may overlap other challenges.
Create an entry post linking to this blog.
Come back and sign up with Mr. Linky in the "I'm participating post" below this post.
You don't have a blog to participate, I can set you up as a reviewer.
I'll be adding a post with Mr. Linky for participants to post book reviews.

Sign on and share your love of reading here.
