Art on Friday
This is my first Art on Friday for 2016. I thought it was an opportunity to share some of the projects/challenges I am planning to work on this year. (I'm including links if you'd like to participate in any of them)
In Julie Fei-Fan Balzer's recent blog post she shared 5 reason why she does art challenges. Two really spoke to me:
*Connects me with a community of other artists.
*Reminds me that regular practice really does lead to skills improvement.
Tag a Day
For 2016 I am creating a tag a day from scrap papers - handmade, painted, bits and pieces. Here are my latest:
January Boxes
I had seen an art project of a page of boxes and loved the idea of a box a day - to capture simple collages, found pictures or stamps. Here's the first 8 days:
Paper, Paint, Pencils, Pens!
I joined this community and try to take part in their twice monthly challenges.
Jan. 1 -15 the them is self-portrait.
Here's my watercolour self-portrait from a photo taken in 1998.(Don't you just love those glasses?? lol)
Colour Me Positive
I joined in with this weekly journalling challenge and am enjoying the change to work with quotes and art. Each Friday a new quote is posted and we are asked to respond.
Here is my first journal spread, with the theme gratitude:
Let's Play
Carolyn Dube is hosting a challenge this year to just play. The first week she asked us to use found materials.
For my project, I included used stamps and words cut from mail and magazine inserts to be recycled. A quick, fun project.

Wonderful work, love those glasses! Hugs, Valerie
What a wonderful group of challenges! I love the self portrait, so sweet!
Wow that's a lot of great challenges. You've got some lovely pieces of artwork there Beverley,
I struggle with challenges, so I have to be picky and committed to only one or two a year. I know I'll never manage more than that.
I've got my own challenge going forward this coming year, which I hope to complete and will at some stage share with the PPF group.
Happy PPF to you
I have to say I totally love your self portrait. It has such a great look and it is retro somehow. And thanks for the list with the challenges. Glad to find you through PPF--I am new around the blog world and glad to make art friends. Happy to say I am a new follower. Dea xo
Wow, you have been creatively busy! I love the variety of art. A tag a day sounds like a great challenge, one I probably wouldn't be able to keep up with but you will have 365 great tags when done! I like the idea of creating a page based on a quote. It looks like a great challenge, and already you've got a wonderful page.
So much fun going on in these projects! Brilliant! I can tell you enjoyed working on these!
Fun, fun, fun! I especially like your box a day.
