Art on Friday

Friday brings the opportunity to share some of the art I have done this week. I find challenges really do motivate me to create - both ones posted by others and ones I set for myself.

Colour Me Positive
Every Friday, a new positive quote along with an additional challenge is posted by "LuluArt". This week the challenge is to make sure we dream big.

52 Card Pick-Up
The theme this week was choice. Here are 2 APCs I created.

Art Tags
I continue to create more art tags - as part of my 366 Day challenge for myself. Here are a few more -these tags were created using gelli paper scraps.

I also created a tag for ABC Wednesday - carving a stamp first and then stamping a tag.

For February I want to focus on hearts on the tags and the theme of love.

Photography
I haven't shared any photography lately, so thought I'd share some of the snowy photos I snapped this past couple of weeks.

Art on Friday

I'm participating in some enjoyable challenges and it does give a focus for what I create each week. Here's some of the artwork I've created this past week.

Colour Me Positive
I really enjoying this weekly art challenge. Every Friday, a new quote is posted as well as an additional extra prompt. this time we were asked to include a self-portrait) This week's quote is one I really need to internalize - believing in myself has been a challenge for most of my life. I chose to give myself a big smile - one I seldom allow myself, but need to do more of.

Mixed Media Monthly Challenge

The prompt at MMMC was "Time Flies" and I narrowed it to 2 quotes:

(I took a workshop from Dina Wakley and bought her book "Art Journal Freedom" and was inspired by her bird.)

52 Card Pick-Up
The theme this week was "Strength" Here are 2  cards I created:

Art Tags
I made a few more art tags for my 366 day project as well as a tag for the ABC Wednesday challenge ( B is for Bird)

A Block a Day
Here is an up-to-date on my block a day challenge for myself. It makes for a quick entry each day.

ABC Wednesday - B and WOYWW

This week at ABC Wednesday, the focus is on B.

B is for bird.

Here is my stamp and card that I created for B.

Be sure to check here for what others around the world did for B.

WOYWW

Each week at "Stamping Ground", Julia Dunnit encourages us to share our workspaces and what we are working on.

Each week I will be carving a new stamp. Here is my space on my dining room table. I am using a notebook to record the trials of carving the stamp.

Then I cleared that away and made the tag - blue background, watercolour nest, collaged eggs and then the stamp. It has been enjoyable to get back to carving - but I definitely need more practice.

Art on Friday

Time for a share of some of the art I have created this week and a look at some of the themes of challenges I participated in.

Paper, Paint , Pencils, Pens!
This art community posts 2 themes a month and we all respond to it in different ways.
I created my second watercolour self-portrait this week, by looking in a mirror. My concentration made me appear much more serious.

Tag a Day
I am continuing with my 366 day project - with 4 more collaged tags as well as 1 tag for ABC Wednesday weekly challenge (A is for Arrow)

.

Colour Me Positive
I am enjoying the weekly journal challenge at Colour Me Positive. The quote relates to living fully each day and also encouraged us to use lyrics in our spread.

(I tried for layers - with inks, paint, stencils and stamps - it is a wee bit "Busy"!)

52 Card Pick-up
The theme for this weekly card challenge on facebook  this week was "Today". I related it to living our dreams.

ABC Wednesday - A and WOYWW

Today begins the 18th round of ABC Wednesday!

I wanted to begin a new challenge for this round and have decided to carve a stamp for each new letter and create aan art tag with the stamp.

A is for arrow.

Be sure to see what others around the world are going to do this round. Check here.

WOYWW

Each week,  Julia Dunnit at "Stamping Ground", encourages us to share our workspaces and what we are working on.

I carved the arrow stamp at my dining room table. I have a special mat so the table is protected. Here's what it looked like after I carved the stamp:

Besides creating the stamp and tag, I am recording the process of the stamp carving in a journal. As I stamp, I check for areas that need more carving. I am happy to be back carving.

I was also working on a journal page for the "Colour Me Positive" challenge. I paint in my art room and here's my work table after finishing the spread.

Here's the spread (you were encouraged to use a silhouette)

Art on Friday

This is my first Art on Friday for 2016. I thought it was an opportunity to share some of the projects/challenges I am planning to work on this year. (I'm including links if you'd like to participate in any of them)

In Julie Fei-Fan Balzer's recent blog post she shared 5 reason why she does art challenges. Two really spoke to me:
*Connects me with a community of other artists.
*Reminds me that regular practice really does lead to skills improvement.

Tag a Day
For 2016 I am creating a tag a day from scrap papers - handmade, painted, bits and pieces. Here are my latest:

January Boxes
I had seen an art project of a page of boxes and loved the idea of a box a day - to capture simple collages, found pictures or stamps. Here's the first 8 days:

Paper, Paint, Pencils, Pens!
I joined this community and try to take part in their twice monthly challenges.
Jan. 1 -15 the them is self-portrait.
Here's my watercolour self-portrait from a photo taken in 1998.(Don't you just love those glasses?? lol)

Colour Me Positive
I joined in with this weekly journalling challenge and am enjoying the change to work with quotes and art. Each Friday a new quote is posted and we are asked to respond.
Here is my first journal spread, with the theme gratitude:

Let's Play
Carolyn Dube is hosting a challenge this year to just play. The first week she asked us to use found materials.
For my project, I included used stamps and words cut from mail and magazine inserts to be recycled. A quick, fun  project.

ABC Wednesday - XYZ and WOYWW

Hard to believe we have come to the end of the 17th round of ABC Wednesday - just a s the new year begins. I've taken a few weeks rest from blogging over the holidays, so I have XYZ to finish with.

I am beginning an

EXcellent

     Yearlong art project - a project 366 for 2016!

        Zippity-doo-dah!

My Project 366 will involve creating art tags - using scraps of hand-made, painted and other kinds of paper.
Here are the first 5:

Be sure to check here for ways Others around the world are finishing this round.

WOYWW

It's time once again to share our workspaces for WOYWW - the fun weekly meme hosted by Julia Dunnit at "Stamping Ground"
I've been working on a couple of projects this week:

1. the tags shown above - as part of my Project 366 - a tag a day.I was working at the dining room table as my papers are upstairs.

 2. I have also started playing along with "Colour Me Positive" - a weekly journal challenge, at    LuLu Art where we respond to a quote and prompt.

This week the quote was by Jennifer Gayle

"When you look at life through the eyes of gratitude, the world becomes a magical and amazing place"

and as well,  we were asked as well to share what we were grateful for from 2015

This was my workspace when I was finished with the journal spread:
