ABC Wednesday - U is for Unicorn

This week at ABC Wednesday, U is our letter of focus - one of those unusual, unlikely letters, difficult to find a unique idea.
My first thought, though, was unicorn.

Growing up, my daughter collected unicorns. I would buy small statues, stuffed toys, pictures, etc. for her for birthdays and Christmas. I think I probably enjoyed the hunt more than she enjoyed the gift! One of her favourite movies for a long time was "The last Unicorn".

When she moved out, I found a box of many of her unicorns. I ended up keeping a few - a memento of her early years and what she means to me. (Just as I now have a few of my Mom's bunnies as a visual reminder of my Mom).

Be sure to visit the other great participants here.

They are nice unicorns. It's always good to keep something to remember people by when you don't see them everyday.

what IS it about unicorns that girls, including my 6-y.o., are captivated by?

Unicorns. I have a few, too. There's something so absolutely mesmerising about them - all it takes is one look to transport into fantasy and magic. Isn't is wonderful to have collections of loved ones? Makes them seem somewhat closer.

I've always loved unicorns. In three, including my last urban fantasy, FRENCH QUARTER NOCTURNE, I included a unicorn.

Have you read THE LAST UNICORN by Peter Beagle. The beginning can be read aloud to a child each night before going asleep, and the child will never tire of it. Roland

Doesn't every young girl love unicorns at some stage? I know I did!

Your daughter's unicorns are lovely. I didn't see the movie, but I did read the book 'The Last Unicorn' by Peter Beagle. I loved it.

Unicorns SHOULD be real! I don't know anyone who doesn't like them. Real or not, they make your memories come back to life and that's the most important thing.
