Slice of Life Tuesday

As our children grow and face challenges, we are always there to guide and help them. Once they become adults though, stepping in to help is not desirable. I know we may want to, but they have their own lives and their own solutions.

I know this and accept it, but this past week I have wanted to be a mother lion and come charging in and protect my daughter. She has been wronged by her workplace and I have to hold myself back strongly not to go in and demand restitution. That is one of the hardest things I have had to do - to do nothing. Not even a letter to the editor which I have written several times!

I admire her and hurt for her. She is a strong woman. I can't wait for her to be able to leave there and pursue employment that respects her intelligence and ability.

It is tough, I agree, but helping them work through the problems may be more empowering for them, don't you think? Even with the students, I want them to solve the problems, with loads of support for sure. Best wishes to your daughter! What a tough time for her, & you too!

Parenting doesn't really get any easier as they grow, does it? As you have stated, sometimes it's what we can't do that makes it so hard. Thanks for expressing from your heart in this piece.

It is so hard not to "do something", but the best thing you can do is to be there for your daughter - listen to her, hug her, comfort her. My prayers are with you both and I know you and your daughter will get thru this difficult time.

I'm still on the "adult daughter" side of the equation (as my own children are still small). Knowing how much I'd want to jump in and solve their problems, I can see how challenging this would be.

Stand strong, and just be there for her :)

A mom's love for her children should be exactly what you speak of... no matter how old they are, we want to protect them from hurt. I applaud you for being there for your daughter... always!
