ABC Wednesday - N is for Nest

This week the letter of focus at ABC Wednesday is N. I have chosen N for Nest.

Once again we have been chosen by the robins as a site for their nest! Last year was exciting as we saw 3 babies hatch and grow and then leave the nest!

Last year's nest though, was destroyed by wind a couple of months ago, so the poor robins had to start from scratch!

They have made a very interesting home atop our ladder on the back porch - taking items from our garden to add some decorating highlights!

But the robins have not taken up residence yet - is the home too small, too outlandish??

Not knowing the mating and reproductive issues of robins, I don't know when eggs will be laid or if the birds will even return. I will have to put out a for sale/rent sign soon if we want occupants!

Be sure to check out the other great participants here.

what a cute little nest! I'm not sure about robins, but I know a lot of birds will construct the nest but not lay for quite a while afterwards, keep an eye out, i bet they'll be back ! :)

Like everyone else, I hope your Robins return. That's quite an elaborate nest they have constructed.

I do hope you will see those robins again. To save you from making a tiny for sale sign and putting it up!

Such fun! Last year we had some chickadees rent my little decorative birdhouse for their little ones. We keep checking but don't see any action yet this year. I hope your robins return to make a little family.

After posting this morning, this afternoon there was Mrs. Robin sitting in the nest! So like Johnny Nutcase said - they were away for a bit!
Thanks for all the lovely comments!

We have dozens of nests in our bushes because we feed the birds and have a small waterfall and fountain to attract them. But not content with the many bushes and trees, one house finch has taken up residence in the gutter outside our living room window. That wouldn't be so bad, since we don't get much rain, if any, after mid April, down here -- unless it is an El Nino year which it is! And rain is forecast for tonight. I hope you know what an El Nino year is -- it would take up too much time and space here to explain. You could always Google it.

I love the creativity of birds building their nests. I like your collection.

That's a very decorative nest, isn't it? I wonder .. are robins one of the species which make 'cock nests'? Some do make several for the females to choose from.

I've heard some birds make a number of nests and let the female take her pick! Hope someone moves in soon so you can watch the babies grow up.
